Jewel of the day: Kara Ross raw amethyst necklace

Browsing through the fine jewellery at Kara Ross’s site, it’s obvious that she was recently inspired by the rich hippy aesthetic of scenesters like the late Talitha Getty. Ross’s current husband is a very wealthy entrepreneur, so she comes by the look honestly. As well as using a lot of oversize semi-previous stones she also favours natural materials like carved and polished wood. I’ve seen her costume jewelry line and it struck me as relatively cheaply made though overpriced, and singularly uninspired. The fine jewellery is edgier and more interesting but there are no prices on the web site, which I always find annoying. It’s as though the seller is already thumbing their nose at you by hinting that you can’t afford it.

Despite that, there were several pieces on the site that I liked. I wish there was more information on them and larger photos, but there is definitely a lot of eye candy to look through. There were no specs at all on this piece, but it sure is pretty to look at.
