I could ask “why?” but the answer, of course, is money. Bebe believes there is a significant subset of its customers who value Kim Kardashian’s style and want to look just like her. Clearly, I’m not in their target demographic. And having celebs “design” or put their names to all manner of products is not new and won’t be ending any time soon.
But if you’re going to wear a piece of jewelry with some personality’s name on it, shouldn’t that person have a reputation for style – whatever that style may be? Kim Kardashian may be known for a lot of things (some more manufactured than others) but I didn’t think chic was one of them.
Here is a sketch from her upcoming line, from www.wwd.com. At a time when necklaces seem to be scaling down somewhat from the “pile it on” aesthetic so popular recently, whoever is designing this for Kardashian wants to perpetuate the look. If this is all the rage in LA or Miami, count me out.
