Jewel of the day: Michele della Valle arrow and heart brooch

Italian designer della Valle designs fluid and whimsical pieces under his own name. His career began as a stone dealer and he designed for Bulgari, among others. This piece is reminiscent of the Edwardian love tokens that favoured hearts, arrows, snakes and knots representing eternity, and other sentimental designs. Here, della Valle uses white and black diamonds and rubies, set into white gold and titanium. On offer by Sotheby’s May 11, della Valle pieces are widely collected and come up frequently at auction. The estimate is 13,000-22,000 Swiss francs.
